31st May is celebrated as the world no tobacco day all over the world. This might seem like an ordinary or for some another month end but for others whose life have been devastated by the ill effects of tobacco can only understand the relevance of this event. World Health Organization (W.H.O) has created the world no tobacco day with the intent to encourage the abstinence from tobacco for a period of 24 hours so as to create a pollution free and healthy living space for our future generations. But do you think a single day is enough to create a difference. Some may argue it and call it as a publicity gimmick but even a single effort by every individual can make the dream of a tobacco free world a reality.
If you look at the statistics then about 20% of the world population consumes tobacco in some form or the other. According to reports, about 6 million deaths are reported due to the tobacco consumption, out of which 600,000 are those who are passive consumers of tobacco. The member nations of the World Health Organization signed for the World No Tobacco Day in 1987 and hence since that day onwards every year 31st May came in to existence as the day to create awareness about the devastating dangers caused by tobacco in the life of non tobacco users as well as tobacco addicts. In order to commemorate the event, every year a theme is dedicated to create awareness about the usage of tobacco.
This year the effects of tobacco threating the development of individuals, nations and in turn the environment have been taken in to consideration. Tobacco as you all are aware brings harm to your health, pocket as well as the environment. With increased usage in tobacco, many cardiovascular diseases, common lifestyle health hazards, pulmonary disorders have been on a rise. The tobacco usage also puts a stress on the pocket of an individual. With increasing daily consumption of the tobacco, the per capita income generated is on a manifold increase. The income in addition to the taxes applied by the government can definitely burn a hole in the pocket of an average middle class individual. Instead of spending daily on the tobacco, save your money and enjoy the perks of healthy and tobacco free life.
Lets take a look at the ill effects caused on the environment due to tobacco. Tobacco consumption also plays an important role in polluting the environment as it causes an increase in the carbon emission thus affecting the entire planet earth. The effects of tobacco thus causes decline in the development of the world as a whole. The progress of a nation depends on individual countries and a country progresses with the progression of its population. Hence people play a very crucial role in the development of the world. A careless and tobacco addicted community will hamper the true growth of any nation thus affecting the development of the world.
So lets take a pledge to bring about the progress from within by saying NO to TOBACCO!!!!!!!
